MENTAL HEALTH NURSING DEPARTMENT

The Mental Health Nursing Department focuses on preparing nursing students to provide comprehensive, compassionate and therapeutic care to individuals with mental health needs. The department emphasizes understanding human behavior, mental health promotion, prevention of mental illness and management of psychiatric disorders. The department provides knowledge and skills related to psychiatric assessment, therapeutic communication, counseling, psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology and various treatment modalities. Students receive clinical exposure in mental health hospitals and community mental health settings to develop empathy, critical thinking and professional competence. The Mental Health Nursing Department aims to develop mentally strong, ethically sound and skilled nursing professionals who can deliver quality mental health care, reduce stigma associated with mental illness, promote psychosocial wellbeing and effectively function as members of the mental health care team.
